You could say that role playing in a virtual world is a game.
You could say that a virtual world is an extension of reality.
You could say “otorhinolaryngologist.” We can’t. We say “Ear Nose and Throat Doctor instead.
More to come.

We play a game without rules. We stumble through each others profiles, looking for pieces of ourselves that we can connect to. If we find nothing on their surface, we discard them as insignificant. It is our loss.
Some play the game as themselves, then willingly place themselves into circumstances they would never attempt in their real lives. Exploring their own thoughts, emotions, and fears. Safely wrapped in their avatar’s skin, they are invincible.
Others play the game to ‘win’… whatever that means. There is to raking or score. No elevation to the next level of play. Recognition for one’s accomplishments are subtle or non-existent, so they strive to be *seen*. They rig the board and trounce the unsuspecting who do not know their game. They steal. They are in the game with their favorite cohorts, Me, Myself, and I. I topple their game boards when I feel they are trying to play me. I am not competing. I don’t want to play with them, is all.
Now…. what was the question?
